Whitebait are a New Zealand delicacy. But they have much more to offer. They are unique native fish whose populations are declining due to climate change and introduced species, jeopardising the future of these fish.

Fish Futures scientist Finnbar Lee spoke with the Spinoff about the remarkable life cycle of whitebait and how understanding more about the species that make up a whitebait patty could enhance appreciation of these fish.
