Fish Futures was well represented at the ‘Freshwater Dowunder’ joint meeting of the Society for Freshwater Science, New Zealand Freshwater Science Society, and Australian Freshwater Science Society held in Brisbane, Australia, in June 2023. Over 760 researchers from around the world attended. The conference was opened by a Welcome to Country and held various concurrent sessions. These sessions offered topics on Indigenous knowledge, freshwater macrofauna, wetlands, biogeochemistry, aquaculture, fisheries, eutrophication and many others.
In support of the event, Ian Kusabs was on the conference organising committee, Joanne Clapcott was on the local arrangements committee and Jane Kitson on the programme committee. A real highlight was securing sponsorship for 8 Māori students to attend the conference and network with other SFS Instars intersted in all things freshwater including fish!
Ian Kusabs accepted an invite to provide a plenary lecture on tau kōura, while Jane and Joanne introduced Fish Futures during the poster session.
